Tibetan lawsuit goes to appeal in Spain
An appeal against the rejection of the lawsuit against the Chinese authorities, by Spain's National Court Number 2 was launched today. The lawsuit, filed by the Comite de Apoyo al Tibet (CAT), requested the court to hear charges against Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, and five other Chinese officials for universal crimes committed against the Tibetan people. It was dismissed on 6 September 2005. Dr Jose Elias Esteve Molto, one of the legal experts behind the lawsuit, said "we intend to continue appealing to other legal bodies, such as the Supreme and Constitutional Courts and even, if necessary, the European Court of Human Rights".
