88 Candidates Compete for the election for Tibetan Legislative Body
(Phayul) The election commission of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) announced a final list of nominees, which comprised of at least twice the number of allocated seats for every constituency, at a press conference held at the Department of Information and International Relations in Dharamshala. After the declaration of preliminary election results, a grace period of 60 days was given to all the candidates to either confirm or withdraw their nomination. There are a total 62 final nominees from the three traditional provinces of Tibet; U-Tsang, Dotoe (Kham) and Domed (Amdo), 20 from the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and the traditional Bon, 4 from the Tibetan communities in Europe and 2 from North America making a total of 88 candidates competing for the final round of the 14th Assembly of the Tibetan People's Deputies election to be held on 18 March 2006, coinciding with the preliminary election for the Kalon Tripa post.
